While the hunt for the elusive kingpin who leaked the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission’s (TNPSC) Group II Examination General Knowledge question paper continues, police are finding that the well entrenched network is scattered across districts.
After initially taking into custody educated touts and candidates from Erode, Dharmapuri and Tiruvannamalai districts, police have picked up three persons from Namakkal, Dindigul and Theni districts. The investigative operation is being led by police in Erode, where the leak was first detected on Sunday leading to the cancellation of the exam.
A police team picked up Sasikumar, the owner of an Internet browsing centre on Tiruchy-Namakkal Road near the main bus terminus in Namakkal district in connection with the racket late on Monday night. He was detained on the basis of an alleged confession by one of the accused Varadaraj of Erode, who revealed question paper manuscript was downloaded and photocopied at the browsing centre for distribution.
“The entire question paper booklet contained about 80 pages. Two of the accused Varadaraj (a teacher) and Selvaraj had taken 900 photocopies of the booklet at the browsing centre owned by Sasikumar,” a police officer said.
During the questioning Sasikumar had told the police that two persons (presumably Varadaraj and Selvaraj) had visited his browsing centre and downloaded the scanned copy of the leaked question paper manuscript.
In a related development, the Erode police, led by Sub Inspector Chinnappan, picked up a 28-year old youth Dharmar of Ayakudi in Dindigul district on the suspicion that he had colluded with some of the accused in the question paper leak case. He was detained from the house of his paternal uncle, who is a professor in a Government-aided college, located in Palani. Incidentally, Dharmar had passed the Group II examination earlier and also cleared the interview, but had sat for the examination again on Sunday to improve his score. Another person Bhaskar of Theni was also secured for questioning.
