Get breaking news alerts as SMS – For Free


There are many ways to get the latest news alerts on your mobile and some of them can be availed at free of cost.
The first method and the easiest method is to visit the mobile edition of the respective news corporations from your mobile. If you are living in India and want to stay updated on the latest happenings around the country then you may want to bookmark these mobile websites in your mobile phone browser (You need to have a compatible mobile phone)
For accessing CNN-IBN’s news on the go, you can type m.ibnlive.com or cnnmobile.com on your mobile browsers address bar (save as bookmark for future use) and hit Go.
IBNliveIf you have an even higher version of mobile phone, you can directly visit the websites of the news  corporations that you like.
For eg. Type www.ndtv.com for NDTV news, www.timesnow.tv for TimesNow news, typewww.headlinestoday.com for headlines today’s breaking news, www.ibnlive.com for CNN-IBN news etc.
Data charges apply (on behalf of your network operator) for browsing the news content. And it is here in these situations that the unlimited data plan for just Rs.98 per month of Aircel may come handy.
The second option is to subscribe for a monthly charge (generally Rs.30/month) to the news channels through your networks WAP portal. For example, if you use Airtel, visit Airtel live from your mobile and subscribe for NDTV’s news services for one month during which you can use the service (without any extra data charges) unlimited times.
The third and free option is to make use of the free Google SMS channels in India.
Just visit this page and sign in with any of your Google accounts and sign up for SMS channels (if you are not already subscribed with that Google account that is) by choosing a Nick name and providing your mobile number. You’ll be sent a verification code, which you’ll need to enter to confirm your subscription.
There on the left pane, you’ll find many categories from which you may select ‘News’ category and subscribe to any one of the channel like Googlenews, The hindu breaking news, IBNLIVE top news, Headlines India, Asianet news, TOI news etc.
Be sure to check the number of posts per day each of those channel publishes so that you limit the number of updates you want by SMS. If you subscribe to all of them, then your mobile will be flooded with SMS news updates.
